On 16 March 1984 in Harare, Zimbabwe a captive female Gaboon vipe,r Bitis gabonica gabonica, gave birth to a litter of 38 young. Details of courtship behaviour, mating, gestation and parturition are provided, together with a review of some other recorded births in Southern Africa.
